Avanton has officially secured planning approval for The Ruby, their ambitious development on Old Kent Road. This project will feature over 40% affordable housing, following a successful planning application.
The Ruby development will transform its namesake site and stands as the first project in the Old Kent Road Opportunity Area to pledge over 40% affordable housing, contributing to the potential creation of over 20,000 new homes.
With its successful planning approval, Avanton’s Old Kent Road project will introduce 1,152 new residences across five buildings, along with a new community sports hall and fitness center. It will also offer new connections and open spaces, including a public park, flexible commercial areas, incubator workspaces, studios for local entrepreneurs, and amenities exclusively for residents.
The scheme will retain two existing buildings on Old Kent Road, enhancing the streetscape with active frontages accessible to local businesses.
True to Avanton’s innovative approach, the Old Kent Road development will focus on community, providing ample public spaces with a park serving as the green heart of the project.
Prioritizing pedestrian access, the development will offer only disabled parking spaces, facilitated by an innovative car club and integrated Enterprise Rent-A-Car program.
Additional features include cycle storage and a social hub for repairs and maintenance.
