The park's design honors the area's history while incorporating more green and open spaces. At the heart of the new scheme is the redesigned York Gardens, connected to the broader neighborhood by green streets and spaces. This newly designed park caters to all age groups with formal playgrounds, play areas, an outdoor gym, sports fields, and courtyard areas for public activities.
Safety and Security
The public spaces prioritize safety and security, with York Gardens being overlooked by residents on all sides and well-lit at night to discourage anti-social behavior. These spaces are designed to maximize residents' interaction with nature, promoting health benefits.
Inspired by the Falcon Brook, the large swales and rain gardens in York Gardens offer sustainable water treatment solutions and educational opportunities.
Housing and Community Support
We are committed to offering homes to all social tenants and resident leaseholders who wish to remain in the new neighborhood. The development will provide 530 social rented units and 86 shared equity units for existing leaseholders, even accommodating those temporarily relocated during the process.
Surplus homes will be returned to the council for allocation to residents in need. Additionally, new homes for sale and various affordable housing options, including affordable rent and shared ownership, will be available.
New Community Facilities
A brand new council-owned leisure and community facility is part of the development, benefiting residents within the estate and throughout the borough. These facilities meet the highest standards set by Wandsworth Council and adhere to design guidelines from the Mayor's Design Guide and Sport England.
